At school everyone was talking about the game on Sunday. It was Creepers against Skeletons. I liked the team names, it was like out of Minecraft where the zombies, skeletons, spiders, and creepers would haunt you at night and threaten to kill you.
As I got into bed I thought about the game at Wentworth Football Stadium, and the teams’ names until I drifted off…
I appeared to wake up in the stadium I dreamed of playing in.
I was sitting in one of the seats in the grandstand. There were other people there, all quiet and zombified. Their eyes seemed to be glowing in the night.
Looking away, I turned my eyes onto the soccer players for the first time.
They weren’t exactly what I was hoping for.
I was expecting fine, strong, big beefy players, that cracked their knuckles on the tables they sat at and guzzled water, but instead the players on the “Creepers” team had five legs, a tail and were green!?!?
Meanwhile, I turned my head toward the Skeletons team. They had their ribs showing. No, not skin, but actual ribs. Just disgusting bones and occasional bits of dry skin here or there, empty sockets where their eyes used to be and hollow mouths with cracked teeth; some sharp, some blunt.
While I was observing this, the gamekeeper’s whistle blew (in case you’re wondering, yes, the game keeper was a Creeper). It was chaos with the team players trying but failing to get at the ball.
