Black and white pictures moving around me

From photographs to films—I see it all.

Colourless faces I don’t recognise

Smiling and laughing at my funny jokes.

One question is burning to be answered,

My patience bursts like a popping balloon—

“Why, just why are you always black and white?”

I gasp, and clap my hand to my small mouth.

I suddenly see black, then white. I faint.

I wake up understanding what happened,

It was a dream, I ensure myself,

But then I think vaguely, “was it a dream?”

Colourless faces surround me again,

Blocking the colourless world beyond us.
